There is something about the sound of footsteps on the cobble stoned streets of Soho just as the dawn moves over the long fingers of steel and brick and concrete that reach high into the sky. There is a quiet that sleeps in the streets of Chinatown before thousands begin their day shopping amidst pungent smells of fish and fruit and meat......... So many places and so many memories.........

In 2006, The House of NyghtFalcon began a project called Scenes from the Life of a City. That series focuses on the area of New York City bounded by Canal Street on the south, Washington Monument on the north, the river on one side and the ocean on the other. The focus of this project is not so much the architecture of the city or the more traditional aspects of the city. The project is about the people whose lives are woven into the tapestry of the city.

Many of the photos in this gallery were created while on working on this project. Others, like the photographs of sunset at Battery Park, were created while on assignment in the city. The one called "Eye on New York" was created in Times Square, more traditionally associated with New York. We often work in the more common areas of the city at nyght - difficult for sure but much more dramatic and revealing.

Every city is unique. New York is no exception. While we have explored most of the city at one time or another, for us the "New York Experience" is always bound by Chinatown, Little Italy, and Washington Square. Whether it is our favorite restaurant in Chinatown, or the quiet corner of Washington Square where we often stop to eat a quick lunch, it is our home.
