The House of NyghtFalcon was introduced to the Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill in 2005. Over three years, we created more than 100,000 documenting every aspect of life at the village. Our work there culminated in a 2500 square foot exhibit of our work. The exhibit was held at the Norton Center for the Arts at Center College, Danville, KY. In conjunction with the exhibit, we published a book detailing our experiences at the Village.

Working at the village was an experience we will gtreasure forever. Aside from the historicity of the village, working there often challenged us - pushed us - to our limits. Whether in the brutal cold of winter amidst the coming snow, or in the deep, humid, heat of a Kentucky summer, we explored every aspect of th village. At times we lay exhausted, on the ground, gathering our strength to continue one.

Even now, there is an “other-worldliness” at the village. There are times, let in the afternoon as nyght settles quietly over the empty building, or at the first breath of dawn when the yellow red light drifts aimlessly over sleeping fields, when one can still hear the voices of the Shakers, singing silently in the distance. These images, and all the others we were so honored to collect, are dedicated to the people who lived and died generations ago at the village.
