On June 1, 2008, isis knoocked on the door of Falcon's studio. "I looked down at her, caught in a moment of surprise. She seemed younger than I expected. And yet, there
was something about her - something familiar - as though I had known her forever and simply had been waiting for her to come back to me." Their first shoot was
at Belmont Estate in Reidsville, NC. Despite the fact that three other NyghtFalcon photographers were there, isis held Falcon's attention. That shoot was to win
more recognition than any other. "I sensed in her," said Falcon, "the same sadness, the same understanding of grief and pain. And yet, there remains in her an innocence that is,
well, perplexing and yet compelling." In September, isis became Falcon's third muse. The images in this collection were created shortly after that.
Between 2008 and 2011, Falcon and isis created more than 20,000 images, almost all among the most critically acclaimed in his portfolio. This series was featured in 2009 by a sister site to Behance.Net.
The emotions of sadness and grief have long fascinated Falcon, from the creation of his first series, Tea and Sympathy, to the present. This series takes its name from a sonnet from Edna St Vincent Millay - the words follow. The depth of sadness that is in evidence in each of these photos captures the sense of loss and sadness that fill this sonnet.
Time does not bring relief; you all have lied
Who told me time would ease me of my pain!
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year's leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year's bitter loving must remain
Heaped on my heart, and my old thoughts abide.
There are a hundred places where I fear
To go,—so with his memory they brim
And entering with relief some quiet place
Where never fell his foot or shone his face
I say, "There is no memory of him here!"
And so stand stricken, so remembering him!
