Cave Hill is an absolutely beautiful cemetery. We have worked in the cemetery a number of times, the last in the winter of 2008, just after a snow. The cold was stunning and the shadows over the newly fallen snow were breathtaking. There were no shortage of monument to photograph – including one with names, birth dates, and ceramic photos, still waiting for its owners to die.

There are many reasons why we enjoy working in cemeteries. Often, the architectural beauty is stunning. But it isn’t simply the statuary or architectural beauty of the mausoleums. We work in cemeteries in part to confront our own mortality.

Most of the photos in this gallery were taken in 2008.
