At first it appeared to be an empty lot filled with debris. But there was something about the lot that wouldn’t let go of Falcon’s attention.
The sun was low in the sky and Falcon and JD had worked a long day on little sleep. Despite the fact that it was September, Roatan was hot and humid.
That too had taken its toll.
Falcon crossed the road, stepped over some broken bottles and trash, and into the cemetery. It was an incredible experience – some of the graves were in total disrepair –
like the one that had a guide wire for a utility pole anchored in the middle of it. Others, like the one on the facing page, were either unfinished or were waiting coffins.
Still others were well cared for and clearly still decorated.
In contrast to the newly built port filled with tourists across the street, the cemetery offered an interesting commentary on the nature of life and mortality
